Blindfold Privacy Policy

Short version: Blindfold never sees what you browse, because there is no server of ours in the path.

Blindfold is a content blocker for Safari on iPhone and iPad. Blocking, statistics, and the on-device AI all run inside Safari on your device.

What We Collect

Nothing about your browsing. Blindfold has no accounts, no login, and no analytics SDKs. We do not collect, transmit, sell, or share your browsing history, the pages you visit, or the rules that fire on them.

The one exception is feedback you choose to send us: if you use the in-app feedback form, the message text and an email address you optionally provide are sent to us so we can read and reply. That is used for app functionality only, is never used for tracking, and is never sold or shared.

Your Browsing

Content blocking happens inside Safari, on your device. Safari applies the rule lists itself and never reports back to us. The statistics you see in the app (ads blocked, trackers stopped, annoyances hidden, bandwidth saved) are counted and stored locally on your device. We never see them.

On-Device Intelligence

When you enable on-device learning, the Blindfold helper extension samples ad-like page elements after a page finishes loading, never while you are browsing. Those samples are classified later by Apple’s on-device model using the Foundation Models framework. The samples, the classification, and the resulting rules all stay on your device and are never uploaded. Every rule written this way is listed in the app and can be deleted individually.

Blindfold Everywhere

Blindfold Everywhere blocks ads system-wide using on-device DNS filtering. Your device sends DNS queries directly to a public resolver you choose (Cloudflare, Quad9, or AdGuard DNS) over an encrypted connection. It is not a VPN and your traffic is never routed through a Serious Business Software server. We cannot see your DNS queries, because they never reach us. The resolver you pick handles those queries under its own privacy policy, so choose the one you trust.

Blindfold downloads its filter lists from a public repository (github.com/hamptus/blindfold-rules). This is a plain file download of the same lists everyone gets. It carries no identifier for you or your device, and it does not tell us or GitHub anything about the sites you visit. You can point Blindfold at a different rule source, or turn over-the-air updates off entirely, in Settings.

iCloud Sync

If you enable it, your settings, allowlist, and custom rules sync through your own iCloud account using Apple’s CloudKit. That data lives in your iCloud, not on our servers, and we have no access to it. You can turn sync off at any time.

Purchases

Blindfold offers an auto-renewing yearly subscription and a one-time lifetime unlock. Purchases are handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. We never receive your payment details or see your Apple Account. Apple’s App Store privacy practices apply to those transactions.

Diagnostics

If you opt in to share diagnostics through iOS Settings, Apple may send Apple (not us) anonymized crash information. You can turn this off at any time in iOS Settings.

Children

Blindfold does not collect data from anyone, including children.

Changes

If this policy ever changes, we’ll update this page and revise the date above.
