Expectancy Privacy Policy
Effective Date: September 2026
Short version: your answers and your health data never leave your device. The only thing the app can ever send is a feedback message you choose to send us.
This policy covers the Expectancy app for Android and, once it is released, for iPhone and iPad. Both are made by Serious Business Software LLC (“we”, “us”).
What Stays On Your Device
Everything you tell Expectancy is stored only in the app’s private storage on your device: your answers to the questionnaire (such as date of birth, sex at birth, country, height, weight, habits, diagnoses and family history), the history of your estimate over time, any goal you set, and display preferences such as units.
The entire model ships inside the app: the WHO life tables, every hazard ratio, the diet model and the disease equations. Your estimate is calculated by code running on your own device, and the app makes no network requests while calculating. There is no account, we have no server that receives your answers, and no copy of them exists anywhere we can reach.
If device backup is turned on, Android (or, on iPhone and iPad, iCloud Backup or a backup to your computer) may include the app’s data in your device backup, the same way it does for every other app. That backup belongs to your Google Account or Apple Account and is covered by Google’s or Apple’s privacy policy. We cannot see or access it.
Health Connect And Apple Health
Connecting Health Connect (Android) or Apple Health (iPhone and iPad) is optional, and every value can be typed in by hand instead. If you connect it, Expectancy asks only for permission to read, never to write. On Android it asks for height, weight, blood pressure, resting heart rate, cardio fitness (VO2 max), steps, exercise and sleep, plus your past data for the trend charts. On iPhone and iPad it also asks for waist circumference, body mass index, heart rate variability, date of birth and biological sex. Nothing read is applied until you have seen the value and chosen to accept it.
Health data read by Expectancy never leaves your device, is never sent to us or anyone else, is never used for advertising, marketing or data mining, is never sold or shared, and is used only to calculate your estimate and the charts you see in the app. Expectancy’s use of information received from Health Connect adheres to the Health Connect Permissions policy, including the Limited Use requirements. You can withdraw access at any time in Health Connect’s app permissions, or on iPhone and iPad in Settings, Privacy and Security, Health.
Send Feedback: The One Thing That Can Leave
Settings has a Send feedback button. If you use it, and only when you press send, the app sends our support system (HeardKit, at api.heardkit.com, which we operate on Cloudflare) the message you typed, the category you picked if any, your email address only if you chose to type one, the app name and version, the operating system and its version, and the time it was sent. That is the complete list. The app never attaches your answers, your estimate or any health data. Like any web request, the connection exposes your IP address to that infrastructure; we do not use it to identify you. We use feedback only to answer you and improve the app. Email us and we will delete a message and any reply.
Purchases
On Android, the one-time unlock and the weekly subscription are sold and processed by Google through Google Play Billing; on iPhone and iPad, by Apple through the App Store. Google or Apple handles your payment details and your account, and we never see them. The app asks the store on your device which purchases you own, so it can unlock the paid features. We receive only the standard sales reports the stores give every developer.
Notifications
If you start the free trial and allow notifications, the app schedules two reminders on your device, three days and one day before the trial becomes a paid subscription. They are local notifications created by your own device. No push notification service is involved.
No Analytics, No Tracking, No Ads
The app contains no analytics, crash reporting, advertising or tracking code. It does not use the advertising identifier and does not track you across other apps or websites. Links you tap in the app, such as a study’s DOI, open in your browser or the store, and those services’ own privacy policies apply. The in-app review prompt, if it appears, is shown by Google Play or the App Store, not by us.
Export And Erase
Settings has an Export button that writes everything the app knows about you to a file you keep, and an Erase everything button that deletes your answers, estimate history and goal from the device. Erasing cannot be undone. Deleting the app removes its data too. Because we never receive your answers or health data, there is nothing about them for us to delete or hand over.
Not Medical Advice
Expectancy gives a statistical estimate based on population data. It is not a diagnosis, not a prediction about you, and not medical advice.
Children
Expectancy is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. The only way we could receive a child’s information is through a feedback message; if you believe that has happened, email us and we will delete it.
Changes
If this policy ever changes, we’ll update this page and revise the date above.
